We had only a few minutes to drive through town, as Matthew was cranky, and we still had several hours to go in order to get to our destination for the night. I was only able to snap a few shots from our moving car. I don't know if I had the courage to get out and walk around, anyway; the scope of devastation was staggering, and far beyond anything that television and news could possibly convey. Miles of this thriving town were literally wiped away. I was anxious to photograph more, but once we arrived it felt...wrong. I didn't want to be a tourist. I was heartbroken.
