Chopin: Polonaise-Fantasy
in A-flat major, Op. 61
This rich and delicious piece is one of my all-time favorite works to play.
Debussy: Spleen (from Ariettes Oubliees)
First of all: the spleen, in modern medicine, is known as an organ in our
bodies that regulates blood volume. A hundred years ago, however, the
spleen was believed to be the originator of all human emotions. Debussy's
works for voice and piano are my favorite works of his -- perhaps even more
so than his solo piano output -- and Spleen is a song I transcribed
for solo piano a number of years ago so that I would still get to play it
when I cannot find a singer to play with.
Rachmaninoff: Sonata in D minor, Op. 28 (1st movement)
This was recorded from my sophomore recital at the University of Michigan
in 1998.
